DUTY OF CARE WHEN TESTS ARE ORDERED BY SECONDARY CARE (HOSPITAL)
In some areas, hospital staff have been instructing GPs to find out the results of tests which the hospital had ordered (or instructing patients to contact their GPs to request this information).
Both the British Medical Association (BMA) General Practitioners Committee and Consultants Committee agree this practice is potentially unsafe. The responsibility for ensuring results are acted upon rests with the person requesting the test.
We would therefore respectfully request that you do not contact the surgery to ask for the results of tests that were ordered elsewhere.
