The Minor Ailments Scheme

The provision of a Minor Ailments Service through community pharmacies:

  • Encourages patient to self- treat minor ailments
  • Supports the use of the pharmacy as a first point of call for health advice and allows the pharmacist to make more use of their professional skills
  • Improves patient accessibility to treatment without the need of an appointment

For eligibility into this service patients must be:

  • Over the age of three months (although older age restrictions may apply for individual treatments)

AND

  • Registered with a GP practice in Northern Ireland

Ailments covered by the service include

  • Athlete’s Foot
  • Diarrhoea
  • Head-lice
  • Dhobie Itch
  • Threadworms
  • Vaginal Thrush
