The practice dates from the earliest days of the NHS. Dr D Wright started up in practice at 961 Upper Newtownards Road in the new NHS in 1947. In 1948, Dr L Goldring, started in General Practice at Thornhill Park, and subsequently moved to 1 St John’s Wood Park in 1951. They formed a loose cooperative arrangement to cover holidays and occasional weekends.
In 1982, Dr M Callaghan joined the practice. When Dr L Goldring retired in 1985, he was replaced by Dr H Curran. Shortly afterwards, on the retirement of her father, Dr P Wright joined the practice.
It was at this point that the two separate surgeries were amalgamated into a new purpose-built accommodation at St John’s Wood Park, which opened in February 1987.
In 1989 Dr L Haslam joined the Surgery when Dr P Wright left.
In 1999 Dr J Cooke joined the practice from a background in Public Health Medicine.
In June 2002 the practice moved to Church Road.
We are proud of our excellent facilities which enable us to deliver appropriate services to our growing patient population.
In February 2007 Dr I Ryans joined the practice.
In February 2013 Dr C Curran joined the practice. Dr C Curran is the daughter of Dr M Callaghan & Dr H Curran. She qualified in Edinburgh and completed her GP training in Glasgow.
Dr H Curran retired from the practice in March 2009.
In September 2016 Dr J Henderson joined the practice. She qualified in Dundee and completed GP training in Belfast.
Shortly after, in April 2017, Dr G Campbell joined the practice. She qualified at Queens University, Belfast and completed GP training in Belfast.
In July 2019, Dr L Haslam retired and Dr E Winters joined the Practice. He qualified at Queens University, Belfast and completed GP training in Bolton.
In January 2021, Dr Ryans retired from the practice to work in other areas.
